Pakistan, The Best Friend of China
Pakistan is located in the northwest of the South Asian subcontinent. It borders India to the east, China to the northeast, Afghanistan to the northwest, Iran to the west, and the Arabian Sea to the south.
Pakistan has an area of 881,913 square kilometers, approximately the same as the land area of France and the United Kingdom combined. It is the 33rd largest country by total area.
Pakistan is the first Islamic country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. As China’s staunch friend, “This is a long-term, all-weather, multi-faceted friendly relationship.”
Pakistan’s Culture and Economy
Pakistan has a long history and rich and diverse culture, dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization, one of the oldest civilizations in the world. The region that makes up Pakistan is also the center of Gandhara culture.
Over time, people from all over the world, including the Middle East and Central Asia, came to settle here and their cultures merged with the local culture. As elsewhere, cross-border trade was a source of cultural transmission. As a result, Pakistan blends elements of different religions and civilizations to form a rich and diverse culture.
With a population of approximately 215 million, Pakistan is the sixth-largest country in the world. More than 64% of the population is under the age of 29, making Pakistan one of the countries with the youngest age distribution in the world. A predominantly young population means increasing demand for goods and services, making Pakistan an attractive trade and investment partner.
Pakistan has four distinct seasons and a diverse terrain, from rocky mountains to fertile fields, from fast-flowing rivers to vast deserts. Pakistan has one of the best irrigation systems in the world, which is the lifeblood of the national economy.
From an economic perspective, Pakistan is different in several ways. Pakistan is the fourth largest producer and third largest consumer of cotton, the fourth largest producer of milk, the fifth largest producer of sugarcane, the sixth largest producer of dates and mangoes, and the eighth largest producer of wheat.
Pakistan has the second-largest salt mine in the world. Eight of the world’s 20 highest mountains are located in Pakistan, including the world’s second-highest peak, K2, which is located in the famous Karakoram Mountains. The Karakoram Highway connects Pakistan and China.
The services sector is currently the largest sector in Pakistan’s economy, followed by the industrial and agricultural sectors. From 2019 to 2020, the service industry accounted for 61.4% of the economy, and the proportions of industry and agriculture were 19.3% respectively.
Wheat, cotton, sugarcane, rice and corn are the major crops, while textiles, food and beverages, minerals, leather, automobiles, chemicals and pharmaceuticals are the major industries. Pakistan is the eighth largest textile exporter in Asia. Pakistan is one of the few countries in the world that has a complete textile chain from raw cotton production to finished garment manufacturing.
